ALIAC Hosts 1st Research Colloquium to Boost Academic and Operational Excellence

Air Link International Aviation College (ALIAC) held its inaugural ALIAC Research Colloquium on July 31, 2024, gathering teaching and non-teaching personnel to showcase and discuss research aimed at enhancing the College’s operations and academic environment. The event, themed “Enhancing Quality Research Outputs through Discipline-Based, Policy-Oriented, Technology-Directed, and Innovative Research for Sustainable Development,” highlighted the significant contributions of employees in driving the College towards excellence.

Ten employees presented their research outputs, each addressing key areas relevant to ALIAC’s operations. The research topics ranged from student online learning experiences and data privacy awareness to process innovations in student records management. The highlight of the event was the awarding of the Certificate of Publication to all authors whose work was featured in the ALIAC Faculty Multidisciplinary Research Journal.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Geraldo Petilla, Chief Administrative Officer of the Finance and Administrative Division at the National Research Council of the Philippines, DOST. Dr. Petilla emphasized the importance of evidence-based policy research in shaping sustainable development strategies within academic institutions. His insights provided a valuable framework for the researchers and attendees to consider in their future work.

The session chairs for the colloquium were esteemed academics including Dr. Alfe Solina, Management Department Chairperson of Cavite State University; Dr. Liane Vina Ocampo of Cavite State University-Imus Campus; and Asst. Prof. Juncen Gardose, Dean of ALIAC OUS. Each chair provided constructive feedback and suggestions for the improvement of the presented papers, encouraging the authors to refine their work further.

Among the notable research presented was a study by Ms. Margaret Bueno, co-authored with Randy Castillo, Wilfredo Ostil, Jr., Aries Abedes, Hazel Irish Pagulayan, and Lina M. Constante, which provided a quantitative analysis of student online learning experience feedback at an aviation college, offering insights into student satisfaction and continual improvement. Mr. Wilfredo Ostil, Jr. presented his work on strengthening data privacy awareness and consciousness within a Philippine aviation institution, highlighting the importance of protecting sensitive information in the digital age. Additionally, Ms. Ma. Amiella B. Ablola, MBA, shared her research on integrating flight attendant training as an enhancement to selected courses in the BS Tourism Management program at ALIAC.

Other significant research included Ms. Ryasmin Gail B. Marcelo’s exploration of a digital campaign system for library attendance and utilization among ALIAC students, and Engr. James E. Deato’s study on learning experiences through training and institutional characteristics at ALIAC as a basis for marketing strategies. Mr. Jerome L. Formalejo presented his needs assessment, which serves as a basis for developing a comprehensive training needs assessment tool for ALIAC personnel. Mr. Vergel R. Pontigon discussed the lived experiences of ALIAC students concerning the non-acceptance of cash payments, while Engr. Albert Renz E. Revilla and Engr. James Warren A. De Guzman presented their work on process innovation in student records management, co-authored with Assistant Professors Enrique Z. Malilang III, Paulo R. Estoy, and Darlyn F. Milloroso.

The success of ALIAC’s first Research Colloquium represents a significant milestone in fostering a research-driven culture within the institution. As ALIAC continues to align its operations with global standards and contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable development, the next colloquium is eagerly anticipated, promising even more participation and innovative contributions from the College’s dedicated personnel.
