ALIAC attended the International GA Leaders Meet in Washington, D.C. to Address Global Aviation Challenges

Atty. Gomeriano V. Amurao, DPA, president of AOPA-Philippines and Chairman and CEO of ALIAC, along with Mr. Randy Castillo, ALIAC’s Asst. to the President for Organizational Development and Head of MIS, participated prominently in the recent International GA Leaders Meet held in Washington, D.C. from May 7th to 11th. The event, organized by the International Council of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Associations (IAOPA), gathered leaders from across the globe to discuss critical issues facing the general aviation (GA) sector.

Leaders from various countries offered perspectives on the varied challenges in GA infrastructure and airport access worldwide. While GA operations are robust in regions like Europe and North America, participants highlighted ongoing challenges such as inadequate facilities and complex regulations hindering seamless cross-border operations in the Pacific Region.

The IAOPA World Assembly, coinciding with AOPA USA’s 85th anniversary, featured a diverse agenda covering emerging technologies, industry trends, and key international GA issues. Notable speakers, including FAA Administrator Michael Whittaker, stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle regulatory hurdles and enhance safety standards across the GA sector.

Discussions at the assembly focused on pivotal initiatives such as the implementation of ADS-B and the global transition to unleaded aviation fuel, reflecting concerted efforts towards sustainability and safety in GA operations.

Ludovic Aron, representing the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), highlighted ongoing collaborations with FAA and IAOPA Europe aimed at harmonizing standards and improving aviation risk management strategies. Resolutions adopted during the assembly addressed critical issues including ADS-B standards, air-to-air frequencies in Europe, and advancements in medical certification for private pilots.

Networking events and panel discussions provided delegates and guests, including representatives from regulatory bodies and aviation organizations worldwide, with opportunities to foster international cooperation and advocate for GA interests. These interactions set a collaborative tone for addressing evolving challenges and exploring opportunities in the global GA landscape.
